This classic spicy, satisfying easy buffalo chicken dip makes its appearance upon every table when sports season rolls around – but really, why wait? We make it whenever a party or craving happens since it’s so simple. It’ll probably even disappear much quicker than the time it took for you to make it (which is just under an hour!).

What is Buffalo Chicken Dip Made of?

Traditional buffalo chicken dip recipes, like Frank's buffalo chicken dip, use a combination of dairy such as sour cream, cream cheese, or ranch dressing, plus a buffalo wing sauce and shredded or canned chicken. But what cheese goes with buffalo chicken? This depends on your tastes – we call for mild cheddar, mozzarella cheese, and a light blue in our recipe for buffalo chicken dip, so it doesn’t compete with flavor, but rather, it adds a creamy luxurious texture when melted. Make it your own by swapping out the cheddar for another mild melting cheese like Monterrey Jack or Colby.

In our Buffalo Chicken Dip, you’ll need the following:

  • Salted butter

  • Shredded chicken

  • Buffalo wing sauce (such as Frank's RedHot®)

  • Cream cheese

  • Sour cream

  • Shredded mild cheddar

  • Low-moisture shredded mozzarella

  • Crumbled blue cheese

How to Make Buffalo Chicken Dip

Follow these easy step-by-step instructions on how to make the best buffalo chicken dip:

  1. Coat the shredded chicken! Using a cast-iron skillet (or another oven-safe skillet) melt the butter. Add in the chicken and buffalo sauce and mix until all the chicken is nicely coated! Pro Tip: Feel free to use a rotisserie chicken and shred it up!

  2. Make it saucy! Add in all the remaining ingredients – saving some cheese and green onions for the top — and mix well!

  3. Bake it until bubbly! Top with remaining cheese and bake for 25 minutes until golden brown.

  4. Serve and dip! Sprinkle crumbled blue cheese and green onions! Dip in your favorites, such as carrots, celery, and a variety of crackers, bread or chips!

What Goes Best With Buffalo Chicken Dip?

First things first, you need all the delicious dippers such as celery, carrots, and little peppers like in this Perfect Cheese Board. Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • 2 cups shredded chicken
  • ¾ cup buffalo sauce (such as Frank's RedHot®)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • ¾ cup sour cream
  • 1½ cups shredded mild cheddar
  • 1 cup shredded low-moisture mozzarella
  • 4 ounces crumbled blue cheese
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¾ teaspoon onion powder
  • 6 green onions, chopped
  • Celery sticks, for serving
  • Carrot sticks, for serving
  • Chicken-flavored crackers, for serving (optional)
  • Corn tortilla chips, for serving (optional)

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F with a rack in the center position.

  2. In a 12-inch cast-iron or ovenproof skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chicken and buffalo sauce and cook until warmed through, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat.

  3. Stir in cream cheese, sour cream, 1 cup cheddar, half of the mozzarella, half of the blue cheese, worcestershire, garlic powder, onion powder, and ¾ of the green onions until combined.

  4. Sprinkle with remaining cheddar and mozzarella. Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake until hot and bubbly, about 25 minutes.

  5. Sprinkle with remaining green onions and crumbled blue cheese. Serve warm with celery and carrot sticks as well as crackers and chips if using.
