Ingredients You’ll Need For Homemade Dill Dip
Mayonnaise – What all good dips are made of! A classic store-bought brand will work, or you can try your hand at making your own Homemade Mayonnaise.
Sour cream– Adds a tangy bite, like in our Blue Cheese Dressing. If you’re looking to make a healthy dill dip, you can substitute Greek yogurt for the sour cream.
Fresh and dried garlic – Double down on the garlic goodness.
Onion powder – Onion powder is made from dehydrated onion, making it more concentrated than fresh onion.
Olive oil – The olive oil helps add more brightness. You can read all about olive oil in our Pantry Essentials: The TMP Guide to Cooking Oils.
Lemon juice – A creamy dip always benefits from a little acidic balance, and a boost from lemons is just what this herby dip needs!
How to Make Homemade Dill Dip
Put everything in a medium bowl–the olive oil, mayonnaise, sour cream, garlic, dill, garlic powder, onion powder, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
Mix everything together until homogeneous and smooth. We like a nice silicone spatula for the job.
How to Store Tips Fresh Dill Dip
We don’t recommend freezing dill dip. Mayonnaise tends to break after it’s been frozen and the texture won’t be the same. Any leftover dill dip should be stored in an airtight container and consumed within a week of making it.
About that mayonnaise! If you’re planning on taking this to a backyard party, it’s safest that this dip be left out for only a couple of hours. Best to keep it out of direct sunlight from a food safety perspective!
If you love the flavor of dill, feel free to add more to your liking!
And if you don’t have any fresh dill on hand, you can use dried dill. Recipes using fresh herbs require double the amount of dried herbs, so just reduce the amount of dill by half (about 1 tablespoon dried dill or to taste).
