Turkey Breakfast Patties: Ideal Protein on the Go

Ingredients For The Perfect Turkey Patty

The ingredient list can be as simple as ground turkey, salt and pepper, but we went for the WOW factor here to make these the best turkey sausage patties you’ve ever had.

  • Ground turkey. Fortunately, this versatile ingredient is now just as common as ground beef. You can find it anywhere!

  • Garlic and ginger. 2 of our favorite breakfast patty flavor bombs!

  • Herbs & spices. Fresh herbs are the best way to pack serious flavor into a small package. We use fresh basil and green onions because they pair well with freshly grated ginger and garlic. This combo gives these turkey patties an Asian flair. We add a little bit of red chili flakes for a slight heat.

  • Coconut aminos! We love this ingredient because it gives these turkey patties the slightest bit of sweetness.

How to Make Turkey Breakfast Sausage Patties

  1. Combine. Mix all the ingredients (except the olive oil) together in a large bowl.

  2. Form the patties. Divide the turkey mixture into 16 patties and flatten them between two hands until about ½ -inch thick.

  3. Cook the patties. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties until browned on both sides. You might have to do this in a few batches depending on how big your skillet is.

  4. Make it a double batch. We love to make a double batch and put them in the freezer for later.

How Do You Keep Turkey Patties From Falling Apart?

If you were flipping these breakfast turkey sausage patties like hamburgers on a grill, we’d recommend adding an egg and some bread crumbs to keep them from falling apart. However, because these patties are cooked in a non-stick skillet, there is no need to add anything extra. Simply form the patties in your hand, give them a little smash and get to frying!

What To Eat With Asian-Inspired Turkey Sausage Patties?

Just because these breakfast turkey patties feature Asian-inspired ingredients doesn’t mean they aren’t versatile. Here are a few way we like to enjoy them:

  • With fried, poached or hard boiled eggs, and avocado.

  • As a high protein side to Baked French Toast or Belgian Waffles.

  • In zoodles with fresh veggies

  • Alone as an afternoon snack with a little peanut sauce

  • Double this recipe and make large turkey patties for the best turkey burger ever.

How to Store Leftover Soup + Tips

  • Leftovers are good for 4-5 days. Cool to room temperature and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, or in the freezer for up to 1 month.

  • If turkey isn’t your thing, try subbing ground chicken. (Just be sure you’re using dark chicken meat or your patties will be lacking in flavor.)

  • Don’t have coconut aminos? Feel Free to sub with soy sauce or Tamari (soy sauce’s gluten-free alternative) and a little brown sugar for that added sweetness.

  • Instant read thermometer. These come in handy so you don’t overcook your turkey patties.

  • Need to customize? If you’re a Keto-er you NEED that fat. If you’re just looking for some good flavor and could care less about fat content, this recipe can be used with ground pork, chicken, beef, OR turkey for equally delicious results.

Turkey Breakfast Patties

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground turkey
  • 2 tablespoons coconut aminos (see Note)
  • 2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger
  • 3 tablespoons minced green onions
  • 4 garlic cloves minced
  • ½ teaspoons red pepper flakes
  • 6 basil leaves, minced
  • 1½ teaspoons sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine the turkey, coconut aminos, ginger, green onions, garlic, red pepper flakes, basil and salt. Mix well, then with wet hands, form 16 patties and flatten them between two hands until about ½ -inch thick.

  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil begins to glisten, working in batches, add the patties to the skillet. Cook the patties until browned on both sides, 6-8 minutes. Continue cooking, flipping occasionally until the internal temperature reaches 170°F on an instant read thermometer, about 4-6 minutes longer. Repeat with remaining patties.

  3. Cool any leftovers to room temperature and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, or in the freezer for up to 1 month.


Note: You can swap the 2 tablespoons of coconut aminos with 1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari and 2 teaspoons brown sugar.

    Delicious! I ended up blitzing the ingredients together then adding to the turkey so I wouldn't get huge chunks. The only thing I'd do differently is add less salt if you go the soy sauce and brown sugar route because that first bite does knock you off your feet a bit and I love salt.
