Lightly seasoned ground turkey is the protein-packed base for this easy turkey egg roll in a bowl recipe! Lots of cabbage and carrots round it out, just like in classic egg roll filling. Soy sauce, garlic and ginger stay true to all of the classic Asian egg rolls flavors we love, all we’ve taken away is the fiddly rolling and frying. If you’re really going for broke and want to make this egg roll in a bowl keto, it’s fine to leave off the wonton strips. Egg Roll Bowl Ingredients

  • Ground turkey. It’s so easy to keep ground turkey on hand in the freezer and we love to use it instead of ground beef as a leaner, healthier protein for weeknights.

  • Cabbage. Another go-to for our weeknight cooking, cabbage is such a workhorse! A cabbage will keep in the fridge for two months (!) so it’s such an easy, forgiving vegetable to have around. We grab one just about every time we shop.

  • Carrots. Another sturdy fridge staple, and a classic egg roll filling ingredient. Sweet and crunchy, don’t skip it!

  • Soy sauce. We like to use low-sodium soy sauce because it tastes about the same as the full-sodium stuff and it’s a little easier on our bodies.

  • Brown sugar. Just a hint of sugar to give it that slightly sweet-savory element that egg rolls have. If you’re being super strict about carbs, it’s fine to leave it out.

  • Toasted sesame oil. There’s really no sub for sesame oil in this egg roll recipe! It’s a rich, unique flavor that makes Asian food of all kinds taste the way it should.

  • Wonton strips. We’ve heard from some folks that these can be tricky to find. No worries! If you can’t find them, it’s OK to skip them.

  • Yellow onion. Sharp freshness!

  • Ginger. Fresh ginger is so delicious, and a chinese food staple!

  • Garlic. You know we basically never cook without fresh garlic.

How To Make An Egg Roll in a Bowl

  1. Sauté ground turkey, onion, ginger and garlic in a skillet until the turkey is cooked through. Yes, this is a one-pan dinner! AKA, the best kind.

  2. Add the vegetables! Cabbage, carrots, soy sauce, sugar and remaining sesame oil and cook for another few minutes until everything is softened and delicious!

  3. You’re done! Time to garnish it and then gobble it! Egg roll in a bowl is a contender for literally the easiest dinner ever, right?

I have some ground pork in the freezer, would that work with this? Thanks!

    Definitely! Hope you enjoy Alena!

  • Mirta

Hi this sounds delicious can it be eaten cold? Also how long will it last in the fridge?

Sure! It will last up to 3 days in the fridge and I would add the wontons right before eating so that they don't get soggy.

  • M.

Can you use coleslaw mix for this?

    Sure!

  • Karen

Love this recipe! It is very easy, fast, flavorful, and healthy. It remains delicious when reheated. I make it with ground chicken because I cant stand the smell of turkey as it cooks. Sometimes we eat it by itself, sometimes I serve it with potstickers. Highly recommend as an easy weeknight recipe or for lunches throughout the week.

Thanks karen, we are so glad you loved it!

Another delicious dinner from y'all! My family loved it. I could not find wonton strips so I bought some eggroll wrappers, cut them into strips and baked them. It worked! Thank you so much for all the great recipes! And, when is the next cookbook coming out?

Thanks Margaret, we are so happy your family loved it! We love your dedication to the wonton strips, nice work!

This is such a great weeknight recipe! So easy, fast, and flavorful!

I couldn't find wontons at the store so I added an 8oz can of water chestnuts for some more crunch. I also served it with some rice.

It's going in my family's regular meal rotation too! Thanks Modern Proper <3

YAY! That is so great to hear, we are so glad you loved it Lindsay!

  • Sara

So good! 5 stars from my family. I added crushed peanuts instead of the wontons and it added that crunch if anyone is looking for another option😀

AMAZING! We love when the whole family enjoys something! Thanks for trying it Sara!

Oh my goodness, this was SO GOOD! I made it for the first time tonight and next time I'm going to make 50% more so there's leftovers... and so we can eat more :) I cooked it in a cast iron skillet and found the moisture from the turkey/onion mixture evaporated off so I didn't need to drain any liquid. This is going in the regular recipe rotation, fo' sho'!

Yay! Glad this dish made the regular rotation list!
