The classic Bisquick sausage ball recipe has been around for a while, but I only recently fell in love with these bite sized wonders. Little balls of pork sausage, cheddar cheese and Bisquick taste like Thanksgiving stuffing in the best way! Served warm, they are such a fun and easy party snack. Around the holidays, they taste so good dipped into cranberry sauce!
Bisquick Sausage Ball Ingredients
- Pork sausage: Jimmy Dean pork sausage is the classic choice for this recipe, but you can use your favorite brand.
- Bisquick baking mix: If you’ve never worked with Bisquick before, don’t worry! It’s a really easy thing to find, look for it in the baking aisle. I've often use Gluten-Free Bisquick, and it works great.
- Cheese: Cheddar cheese and Parmesan cheese. Grate the cheeses yourself for the best results!
- Milk: Whole milk is best.
- Seasonings: Italian seasoning and garlic powder.
How To Make Bisquick Sausage Balls, Step By Step
- Use your hands to gently mix all of the ingredients together.
- Roll the sausage balls. I use about 1½ tablespoons per sausage ball.
- Bake at 350°F for 25 minutes.
Tips For The Best Sausage Balls
- Allow the pork sausage to warm up a little from the fridge before you use it, because really really cold sausage won't mix as well.
- Try to make each sausage ball the same size, so that they bake evenly.
- Freshly grated cheddar is your best friend because pre-shredded cheddar won't melt properly into the sausage balls when they bake.
- Your mixture will seem too dry at first, but the warmth of your hands will help it along. Just be patient.
- Keep the sausage balls warm during a party by putting them in the Crock Pot set to warm.
- Assume each party guest will eat 2-3 of these. Plan accordingly! The recipe makes 35 balls, so you may want to double or triple it for a larger party.
Variations
- Use a different sausage: Instead of regular pork sausage, try using an Italian sausage or even hot Italian if you like a kick. Pork breakfast sausage, which often has a slightly sweet flavor, would be good, too. Chicken sausage or turkey sausage could work, too.
- Make them in an air fryer: at 350°F for 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through. They'll be crispier than oven-baked. Work in batches to avoid overcrowding.
Make Ahead & Freeze
Sausage bites freeze well! Cool them completely after you bake them, then freeze the sausage balls on sheet pans. When they’re frozen through, move the frozen sausage balls to freezer bags. They can be stored in the freezer for up to two months. When you are ready to serve them, pop them in a 350°F oven for about 15 minutes, or until they’re warmed through.
