Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Holly Erickson discovered her love for cooking at the age of ten when she took her first cooking class. This early passion has only deepened throughout her life, culminating in a culinary journey that's spanned multiple cities including living in Austin, San Francisco, and Seattle.
Holly's culinary education came through hands-on experience—from hosting countless gatherings for friends and family, devouring every food magazine she could get her hands on, and a brief but formative period working as a caterer. In 2012, Holly and her friend Natalie joined forces to create The Modern Proper, bonding over their shared love of food, hosting dinner parties and entertaining.
As co-owner of themodernproper.com and co-author of "The Modern Proper: Simple Dinners for Everyday," Holly has spent nearly twelve years developing recipes and building a brand from the ground up. Her versatility in the kitchen extends to creating meals for various dietary needs, including gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and low-carb options, inspired by her own family's diverse needs.
Beyond cooking, Holly's passions include traveling, interior decorating, and organizing large-scale dinner parties for fundraising events and holidays. She brings a holistic approach to food, with a deep interest in wellness, mental health, and gut health.
Holly and Natalie's work has earned them appearances on Good Morning America and features in Jamie Magazine, Domino.com, TheKitchen.com, Taste of Home, and Sur la Table. Their impressive client portfolio includes partnerships with Staub, Tillamook, Sur la Table, and Crockpot.
What Holly values most is the creative partnership she's built with Natalie and the joy that comes from building a business around something she truly loves. This authentic connection, both to her work and her business partner, has been the foundation of her success. Holly believes that food is more than sustenance; it's a way to gather people, create memories, and nurture both body and soul. After more than a decade in the culinary world, Holly remains as enthusiastic as ever about the power of thoughtfully prepared food to transform everyday moments into something special—a philosophy that continues to guide every aspect of her work with The Modern Proper.
