Ingredients You’ll Need To Make Bacon Wrapped Asparagus
Bacon – We’re looking for a thin cut bacon for this recipe. Too thick, and the bacon won’t cook correctly. We want crispy bacon wrapped asparagus!!
Asparagus – It’s that time of year, when these tender and crunchy greens start showing up at the market. Thicker spears of asparagus will cook up nicely in the high heat oven, or you could make grilled asparagus. When you’re buying asparagus, look for bright, firm stalks.
Olive oil – A higher quality olive oil is nice to use here if you have one on hand, since this is a recipe that is all about the asparagus. A fruity olive oil will really make the asparagus sing!
Salt + Pepper – And that’s it. Literally five minutes of prep before you put these in the oven.
How to Make Asparagus Wrapped In Bacon
Heat the oven to 425°F and place a rimmed baking sheet in the oven while it heats.
Toss the asparagus spears with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
Divide the asparagus spears into even piles. Starting about an inch from the asparagus heads, wrap the bacon tightly around each bundle, swirling it down and around like a candy cane stripe. You don’t want it wrapped in one section like a belt.
Arrange the bundles on the baking sheet so that they aren’t touching, this way everything will get crispy and crunchy in the oven.
Roast until the bacon is crispy and the asparagus is tender, about 25 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Pro tip: Make a batch of our Hollandaise Sauce for a little dunkaroo.
How To Store + Variations For Bacon Wrapped Asparagus
Freezing asparagus at its peak is one of our favorite ways to stretch asparagus season just the tiniest bit further than its brief growing season. With that said, freezing cooked asparagus will result in a better tasting asparagus once it is reheated. You can freeze the cooked asparagus once it has cooled to room temperature. Stasher bags are great for this!
If you happen to have leftovers, we think that they would be divine chopped up and added to our Bacon Cheddar Biscuits or baked into Egg Cups for breakfast. Either way, future you will be so happy.
We don’t have any great ideas for substitutions here, since this is a fairly simple two-ingredient recipe. We can however direct you to more great bacon-wrapped dishes, like Bacon-Wrapped Scallops.
