What is the Best Lamb to Use for a Curry?

This lamb curry recipe is one of our favorites, because not only is the flavor profile “beginner friendly,” winning over even the most skeptical of palates, but it uses one of the most cost effective cuts of lamb, the shoulder. So, instead of that rack of lamb you were considering for Christmas Eve, how about a big bowl of warm lamb curry over basmati rice, with a piece of soft, buttered naan? Sounds pretty perfect, right?

Why choose American Lamb?

You may be wondering why we use American Lamb for our lamb dishes as opposed to whatever else we find at our grocery store. For starters, we are committed to always sourcing the very best meat. For more reasons than we can count, now more than ever feels like a good time to start thinking sustainably about the meat we consume.

What To Serve With Lamb Curry?

Because a little bit of lamb can go a long way, we like to use cauliflower to soak up some of that delicious sauce. If you chose to do this, simply add the cauliflower to the slow cooker for the last hour of cooking‚ it really serves to bring the whole dish together. This one-pot dish is gluten free and is also delicious when served with:

  • Basmati rice
  • A dollop of yogurt
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Warm naan

The name of this is Slow Cooker LAMB Curry. You mention curry in the list of spices but the curry is not listed in the recipe nor the description in the recipe. I made this without the curry because it was not listed in the recipe and it was freaking ah-mazing! I can only imagine how good it would be with the curry. Can you tell me how much curry should be added to this recipe? I told my family that this is "curry" lamb but there is no curry in there!

The other spices create the dry curry powder. Glad you enjoyed Marcella!

  • Chelsea

Will lamb stew pieces work if we don’t have shoulder available?

    Sure! Hope you enjoy!

  • Tamara

Hi - would this work with a boneless lamb leg? And if so how long do you think it'd take in the slow cooker? Thanks :)

Hi, I believe it would work just fine! Should be the same amount of time.

  • Peter

How can I cook this in a conventional
    Oven? Thanks!

We don't have oven instructions for this at this time.
