You’ve only got two more weeks to plan what you will be noshing on come Super Bowl Sunday, and hopefully this pizza will be lucky enough to make it on the menu.

One of the best kept secrets of 2015 was that honey is, in fact, delicious on pizza. 2016 did a pretty good job of leaking the news, and we began to see that heavenly nectar pop up on many gourmet pizza menus. I’ve officially decided to spend 2017 spreading the word for anyone left that might not know about this amazing combo, starting right here on TMP with this scrumptious pizza. You’ve only got two more weeks to plan what you will be noshing on come Super Bowl Sunday, and hopefully this pizza will be lucky enough to make it on the menu.

I like to make things as easy on myself as possible and take short cuts where I can, so I started by picking up some store-bought pizza dough (my favorite is the homemade style from Whole Foods, but I’m not terribly picky. You can use any brand you like, make your own, or even call your favorite local pizza spot and buy dough balls from them...yes they do that!). After rolling out the dough, I spread on the perfect amount of sauce (store-bought as well…who do you think I am? I don’t have time to make my own sauce! But, if you do, good on ya!), not too much, not too little. Then I sprinkle on the cheese. Now here’s where I get picky…I really like to grate my own cheese, I find the flavor to be so much fresher. But, for the sake of ease use the pre-shredded stuff if you must. Next comes high quality salami, red onions, and jalapeños for some heat (slice them paper thin if you're scared about the spice level and ease yourself into it), followed by my favorite castelvetrano olives (pre-pitted from the olive bar, of course). To make things really interesting I like to coat the crust in an everything bagel seasoning. Trust me, it's a good idea, especially in combination with the final ingredient (wait for it). Once that beauty is baked all that is needed is a hearty drizzling of gorgeous, local honey and damn, Gina. That pizza be lookin fine.

Come Super Bowl Sunday you'll surely find this gem on my table, along with some of my other favorite party foods like this beer cheese dip and these always crowd pleasing jalapeño poppers. Great football food doesn't have to be boring, and the amazing combo of ingredients on this pizza proves that. You might want to plan on making at least a couple of these. One for you, and one for your guest. Go sports! Go pizza with honey!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Store-bought or homemade pizza dough
  • 1 (14 oz) jar Pizza sauce
  • 10-12 oz Mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 15-20 Thin salami slices
  • 1/4 Of a red onion sliced very thin
  • 1 Jalapeño, seeded, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup Castelvetrano olives, pitted, sliced in half
  • Olive oil, for brushing edges and pizza pan
  • Everything bagel seasoning, recipe below
  • 1/4 cup Honey
  • Red pepper flakes, optional

Everything Bagel Seasoning

  • 2 tsp Poppy seeds
  • 2 tsp Onion flakes
  • 2 tsp Garlic flakes
  • 2 tsp Sesame seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Coarse salt

Method

  1. Heat oven to 500° F.
  2. To make the everything bagel seasoning, mix all ingredients in a small bowl and set aside.
  3. Let pizza dough come to room temperature for 30 minutes before rolling out onto a lightly floured surface with a rolling pin.
  4. When your dough is roughly 10 inches in diameter or ½ inch thick, place it on a lightly oiled baking sheet, pizza pan, or pre-heated pizza stone.
  5. Spoon pizza sauce (to desired thin or thickness) onto dough leaving 1-inch of crust exposed around the edges. Cover the sauce with ¾ of the mozzarella cheese.
  6. Place the salami, onion, jalapeños, and olives onto the pizza. Sprinkle with remaining cheese.
  7. Brush edges of pizza with olive oil and sprinkle with the everything bagel seasoning.
  8. Place pizza in the oven for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden brown and the center of the crust is crispy.
  9. Remove from oven, drizzle with honey and sprinkle with red pepper flakes. Serve with extra honey for dipping the crust into.
