Look, there’s nothing wrong with a great grilled cheese. And who doesn’t love scrambled eggs? But when it comes to true greatness, as far as we’re concerned, this skillet chocolate chip cookie recipe is far and away the best thing you could ever hope to make with your trusty cast-iron skillet. An Easy Homemade Skillet Cookie Dough

To make the best skillet cookie EVER, we called on a few basic, classic chocolate chip cookie ingredients. Well, really we should say chocolate chunk cookie ingredients, because we strongly feel that a chocolate chunk is vastly superior to a chocolate chip. Yeah, it means you’ve got to do a little chopping, but chocolate chopping usually leads to a bit of chocolate snacking, which is always a good thing. Anyway, we’d bet good money that you’ve already got a lot of these ingredients on-hand. And if not, they’re easy to get your hands on. Here’s everything you’ll need to make a killer skillet cookie:

  • Unsalted butter. You know that it’s always best to bake with unsalted butter, right? That way you can control the salt in your baked goods! We love to add a pinch of salt to cookie dough, but different brands of salted butter can contain different amounts of salt, so it’s best to start with unsalted butter and add the salt in measurable increments.
  • Sugar—both white and brown.
  • Egg
  • Vanilla
  • All-purpose flour
  • Baking soda
  • Salt
  • Milk chocolate
  • Dark chocolate

How to Make a Skillet Cookie

Making a skillet cookie is arguably even easier than making a batch of regular old chocolate chip cookies—just mix up the batter and press it all into a single pan. Bake and slice! Here’s how we do it:

  1. Chop up milk chocolate bars and dark chocolate bars. Try not to eat all of the chocolate—save some for the skillet!
  2. Make cookie dough! Just like you would for a normal cookie. Cream the butter and sugar, mix in the eggs and vanilla, then stir in the dry ingredients.
  3. Stir in both chocolates.
  4. Press dough into a greased cast-iron skillet.
  5. Bake! About 20 minutes.
  6. Gobble! You made a giant cookie! Yay!

How to Serve a Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie

It tastes like a cookie, but cuts like a cake. Therefore, it obviously must be served with...ice cream! There’s nothing wrong with eating a skillet cookie on its own, but we subscribe to the “more is more when it comes to dessert” philosophy, and so we say top that baby with a big scoop of good-quality vanilla ice cream! Oh, and a little sprinkle of fine sea salt, too. YEAH WE WENT THERE.
