Mango Salsa

You may think that the best condiment is ketchup. But, you may be wrong because the best condiment is actually this vibrant, tangy, slightly spicy mango salsa!

For Overall Life-Improvement, May We Suggest Mango Salsa?

Mango season is nearly upon us! While they’re pretty much available year-round, peak mango season hits in early summer—typically June and July is the best time to buy mangos. And that just happens to be when we seem to crave their juicy, sunny sweetness most! While they’re great on their own—a favorite after-school snack for sure—we also love how mangos pair so nicely with savory things. They have such lovely acidity and sweetness, they’re just begging to be dressed up with a little salt and heat! This fresh mango salsa recipe keeps the flavor of mangos firmly front and center, complementing their tart-sweet loveliness with gentle (seeded!) jalapeño spice and a spritz of lime juice. Onion adds a little sharpness and texture, too. From there, you can add some optional flavor boosters—like hot sauce or brown sugar—or simply dig right on in.

Just A Few Ingredients and Voila! The Best Mango Salsa Can Be Yours!

What is mango salsa made of? Well, definitely fresh mangos. But you probably guessed that already, right? Other than that, remember that the word “salsa” simply means ‘sauce’ in both Spanish and Italian, you can think of this not so much like the tomato-based salsas that you’d eat with tortilla chips, but instead like a refreshing condiment to use on, well, just about anything that needs a little sweet-and-spicy lift. Here’s everything you’ll need to make our simple mango salsa recipe:

  • Mango

  • Red onion

  • Cilantro

  • Jalapeño

  • Lime

  • Salt

  • Sugar

What Does Mango Salsa Pair Well With?

Ooooo so many things! Fresh and spicy, juicy and tart, a little sweet, a little salty—mango salsa is truly a superhero condiment. It’ll dress up even the most simple meals and make them special. Once you’ve made it, you’ll probably come up with your own favorite ways to serve mango salsa, but here are a few ideas for how to use it to get you going:

  • Fresh fish! We love this with blackened salmon, but it also goes nicely with simple grilled white fish—halibut in particular.

  • Chicken. Especially fresh off the grill!

  • Burrito bowls

  • In a green salad

  • With chips! You can definitely have it with chips for an out-of-the ordinary chips-and-salsa experience.

How Long Does Mango Salsa Last?

You can make the salsa a day or two ahead of time and store it in the fridge, but don’t try to freeze this sunny, fresh mango salsa! It just won’t do well. Mango salsa is all about freshness and vibrancy—the texture should be just-so, and the freezer will destroy it.
