This is basically a really beautiful way to showcase your latest tinned seafood obsession, whatever it may be. Honestly, we have never met a tinned fish that didn’t work with this simple preparation.

Yellow bowl with whipped feta, roasted red pepper and parsley topped with octopus served with toast.

Got a Can of Fish? You’ve Got The Best Cocktail Snack, Ever

Mix up a pitcher of sangria and honor its Spanish heritage by serving it with this incredibly yummy and incredibly easy snack. Tinned fish is the star here—or, conservas, as they’re called in Spain—while salty feta and jarred roasted peppers serve as a crowd-pleasingly dippable base. It’s a wonderful dish for most any moment—a casual drinks night with friends, movie night with the family, or when you’d rather have a snacky dinner than a “real” dinner. Open a can, open a jar and your work is done!

Our Favorite Tinned Fish for this Dish

Ooooooh is it ever hard to choose a favorite. And the whole idea behind this recipe is versatility—the creamy feta and roasted peppers work well with a lot of different types of fish. They’re a cool, sweet, simple pairing for most any salty tinned fish that you love! Smoked fish or even fish that’s canned with seasonings would both work well—particularly the classic conserva combo of smoked paprika and tomatoes. All that said if you’re in need of specific guidance, any of these tins would be super delicious in this recipe:

  • Fishwife ANYTHING, but any of the cans from their smoky trio would be great!

  • Octopus from Matiz

  • And always, the Trader Joe’s smoked trout is our forever go-to!

Bowl of whipped feta topped with roasted red peppers, tinned octopus and parsley with toasted bread alongside.
