Homemade vs. Store Bought-Guacamole:

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that homemade guacamole will ALWAYS win over store-bought guac, but there are some benefits to taking this shortcut once in a while.

Here’s the pros and cons of both options:

  • Homemade Guacamole: If you want the BEST tasting keto burger and have a few minutes to spare we HIGHLY recommend mixing up a batch of Homemade Guacamole using our favorite recipe. We love the hits of lime and nothing can beat the punchy flavors of fresh garlic and cilantro. It comes together quickly and really takes this keto-friendly burger to the next level!
  • Store-Bought Guacamole: We'll be honest, we don't typically purchased store-bought guacamole. However, we are huge fans of cutting corners when it makes sense. And so, if making homemade guacamole vs. just buying it at the store is all that stands between you and making this bacon burger, then by all means go for it! We can say from times we’ve tasted it that preservatives like citric acid (which helps the store-bought stuff keep its pretty green color) can taste extra tangy. So be prepared for that.

Did You Say Jalapeño Aioli?

Why yes, yes we did. The addition of this aioli will add SO much flavor to your keto burger (not to mention a few macros!). This jalapeño aioli is a breeze to make and will be the best thing that has ever happened to your keto-friendly dinner table. If you have a hand-held immersion blender, you can just throw all the ingredients into a jar and blend away! If you don’t own one, simply throw everything into a standard blender or small food processor.

The flavors in this bold jalapeño aioli are unbeatable:

  • Jalapeño (seeded)
  • Lime
  • Garlic
  • Cilantro

It’s fresh, bold, creamy, and totally completes this bacon burger!

Low-Carb Bacon Burger with Guacamole

Serves 6

Ingredients

2 lbs ground beef
1 lb cooked bacon, divided
1 tsp salt
½ tsp pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 small head purple cabbage, shredded
1 1/2 cups guacamole
1 head iceberg lettuce, leaves carefully separated to make wraps

Jalapeño Aioli

1 cup mayonaise
1 jalapeno, seeded and minced
1 lime, juiced
1 clove garlic, roughly chopped
¼ cup cilantro, minced

Method

  1. Set aside 6 slices of cooked bacon to put on your burgers. Roughly chop the rest of the bacon and place in in a large mixing bowl. Add the beef, salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder and mix until ingredients are thoroughly combined.
  2. Form 6 patties (roughly 5.5 oz each)
  3. If you are grilling: Heat a gas grill to high. Brush the burgers with the oil. Grill the burgers until golden brown and slightly charred on the first side, about 3 minutes. Flip over the burgers. Cook beef burgers until golden brown and slightly charred on the second side, 4 minutes for medium rare or until cooked to desired degree of doneness. Cook the burgers as for a grill, above. If you are using a grill pan: Heat a grill pan over high heat on top of the stove.
  4. While the burgers are cooking, make the jalapeño aioli by adding all ingredients to a blender, food processor or a jar if using a immersion blender. Blend until smooth.
  5. Build your burger! Place your burger patty on a large iceberg lettuce leaf, top it with shredded cabbage, guacamole, more bacon, drizzle it with aioli. Carefully wrap the lettuce around it, using a few more leaves as necessary.
  6. Enjoy.
