As mothers who are at home with our children day in and day out, there is something extra special about this time of year that Natalie and I truly long for all winter long. We are finally able to open the back doors of our homes and shoo our little chickies outside to play. In our collective tribes we have 5 little ones between us ranging from 20 months to 5 ½ years. During the long, cold, rainy months the days when Natalie and I are cooking together, it requires a lot of our energy to keep them busy. There's tons of Legos, snacking, and almost always dress up. The best costume of late is a ninja outfit paired with a cat mask, whose wearer yields a double lightsaber, pretty intense stuff. As hectic as it is, we love having the kids be a part of what we do at TMP, but there is something so sweet about spring’s arrival and the ability to say “GO PLAY OUTSIDE!”

The energy our little ones burn in their newly restored backyard freedom is monumental, and as a result we enjoy a peaceful (for the most part) kitchen to work in. Ahhhh, it's bliss. Recently, on our first gorgeous 70 degree+ day of the season, we celebrated by inviting over our friend (and amazing post editor) Alyssa who brought along her two littles and our beautiful friend Emily with her two youngsters, to eat, drink, be merry and soak up some of that precious vitamin D we had been longing for out on the patio. Nine tiny, happy humans, four mamas, a gorgeous day...the only thing missing was cocktails (for the adults, of course)!

Not just any cocktail would do on such an occasion, so we turned to the Pisco sour. We took this divine drink and made it extra springy by swapping the lemon for grapefruit and the angostura bitters for orange bitters. We garnished them with pretty little edible pansies, and clanked our glasses to the warm days ahead. It was just what we needed. The next beautiful day you find yourself enjoying, give these lovelies a try and it will be all the more perfect, I guarantee it. After all, coming out of the eternal fall and winter we’ve had this year, a little sun is worth celebrating.
