Cheddar & Onion Cheese Ball

Cheddar And Onion Cheeseball on a platter with crackers
  • Serves:  10
  • Prep Time:  20 min
  • Cook Time:  0 min

Ingredients

  • 2 (8-ounce) blocks cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 ½ cups shredded white cheddar cheese
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 5 tablespoons dried minced onion
  • 3 green onions, white and green parts, minced (about ⅓ cup)
  • ¼ cup finely chopped fresh chives
  • Crackers of your choice, for serving

Method

  1. Line a medium bowl with plastic wrap.

  2. In a food processor, combine the cream cheese, cheddar, onion powder, garlic powder, pepper, salt, and 2 tablespoons of the dried minced onion. Blend until smooth. Add the green onions and pulse until just combined.

  3. Transfer the cheese mixture to the prepared plastic wrap-lined bowl. Gather the plastic wrap tightly around the cheese mixture, shaping it into a ball. Chill until firm at least 4 hours or up to 12 hours.

  4. Heat a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the remaining 3 tablespoons of minced onion and cook, stirring often, until golden brown, about 3 minutes.

  5. Combine the toasted onion and chives in a pie plate or baking dish. Gently roll the chilled cheese ball in the chive and onion mixture, pressing lightly to adhere.

  6. Serve with crackers.
