Spiced Bourbon Punch

Ingredients
Spiced Simple Syrup
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 10 whole cloves
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 6 star anise pods, plus more for serving
Bourbon Punch
- 2 cups spiced apple cider
- 1 (750ml) bottle bourbon
- 1 (750ml) bottle Champagne or sparkling wine
- 1 ½ cups orange liqueur, (we like Triple Sec)
- 1 ½ cups fresh lemon juice, (from 8 lemons)
- 1 batch spiced simple syrup
- Sliced apples, for garnish
- Lemon slices, for garnish
Method
Make the simple syrup. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, cloves, cinnamon, anise, and ½ cup of water. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring constantly, until the sugar is dissolved, about 3 minutes.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and let cool completely. Once cool, strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve to remove the spices.
Make the punch. In a large punch bowl or pitcher, combine the spiced cider, bourbon, sparkling wine, orange liqueur, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Chill for 30 minutes before serving.
Serve over crushed iced and garnish with sliced apples, lemon slices and star anise if using.
