Skillet Caramel Apple Crisp
- Serves: 6
- Prep Time: 20 min
- Cook Time: 45 min
Ingredients
- 5 cups apples, peeled, cored and sliced
- 1 ⅓ cups brown sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon
- 3 tablespoons butter
- ⅔ cup melted buter
- 1 cup flour
Method
Preheat the oven to 375° with a rack in the center position.
Add the apples to a medium sized mixing bowl. Sprinkle with ⅓ cup of the brown sugar and ½ teaspoon of the cinnamon, toss to coat.
Thinly slice 3 tablespoons of the butter and place it in the bottom of a 12-inch cast iron skillet. Arrange the apples over the butter in the skillet.
Heat the remaining ⅔ cup butter (until very soft, but not quite melted) in the microwave or small saucepan over medium-low heat. Pour the butter into the same mixing bowl. Add the remaining 1 cup brown sugar, remaining 1 teaspoon cinnamon and flour. Using your hands, mix the ingredients together until fully combined and a loose dough forms. Crumble evenly over the top of the apples.
Bake until the top is golden brown, the apples are tender and the caramel sauce is bubbling, about 40-45 minutes.
Cool for 15 minutes. Serve topped with vanilla ice cream, if using.
