  • Serves:  8
  • Prep Time:  10 min
  • Cook Time:  35 min

Ingredients

Filling

  • 6 cups mixed fresh berries, such as blueberries, raspberries or blackberries
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1½ tablespoons fresh lemon juice (from 1 lemon)
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Oat Topping

  • ¼ cup (½ stick) cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt

For serving

  • Vanilla ice cream (optional)

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F with a rack in the center position.
  2. In a large bowl, gently mix the berries with the sugar, salt, flour, lemon juice and cinnamon, if using. Pour the berry mixture into a 2-quart baking dish or pie pan.
  3. In a medium bowl, add the butter, brown sugar, flour, oats and salt. Use your hands to combine the mixture until a crumbly dough is formed. Scatter the oat mixture over the berries.
  4. Bake until the berries are bubbling and the topping is golden brown, about 35 minutes.
  5. Serve warm, divided between bowls, topped with ice cream, if using.
