How to Make French Toast

4 slices of homemade French toast topped with sliced butter and maple syrup on a plate with a fork beside it
  • Serves: 4
  • Prep Time:  5 min
  • Cook Time:  20 min

Ingredients

  • 3 large eggs, beaten
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 4-6 Tbsp salted butter, plus more for serving
  • 6-8 slices bread (white, wheat, brioche, French or challah)
  • Pure maple syrup, warmed

Method

  1. In a pie dish or shallow bowl, whisk the eggs, heavy cream, vanilla extract and cinnamon until fully combined.

  2. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add butter to the pan, 1-2 tablespoons at a time, until it’s melted and bubbly, but not browned.

  3. Dip the bread into the egg mixture and let it soad for 30 seconds. Then, flip the bread and let it soak for another 30 seconds on the other side.

  4. Add the bread to the bubbly butter in the skillet or griddle. Cook for 1-2 minutes per side, until the French toast is golden brown on both sides.

  5. Repeat with remaining slices of bread, adding more butter to the skillet as needed.

  6. Serve the French toast hot, with extra butter and maple syrup on the side.
