Ingredients
- 1 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil
- ¾ cup popcorn kernels
- 6 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into 1 tbsp size pieces
- ¾ tsp kosher salt
- 2 tbsp nutritional yeast
Method
- In a shallow 3 1/2-quart pot, or a 3-4 quart dutch oven, heat the oil along with two kernels of popcorn over high heat and cover. Once you hear them both pop, add in the remaining kernels and cover.
- Once the popcorn starts popping, begin shaking the pan vigorously every 30-60 seconds to ensure even cooking.
- Once the popping begins to slow down, remove the pan from the heat and let it sit for 1 more minute. Pour popcorn into a large bowl.
- In a small saucepan add butter and cook, over medium heat, stirring often until butter begins to brown, foam and smell slightly sweet and nutty, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat immediately to avoid burning.
- Toss popcorn with browned butter, salt and nutritional yeast until combined. Add more salt if needed.
Yield: 12 cups popped popcorn
