Grapefruit Anise Salad

Ingredients

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 6 star anise pods
  • 2 large grapefruit, segmented or peeled and thinly sliced

Method

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, water and star anise. Set over medium heat and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and cook, stirring until sugar has dissolved, about 2-3 minutes. Turn off the heat. 
  2. Let cool to room temperature. Strain out the star anise. Can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator, in an airtight container, for up to 2 weeks.
  3. Arrange the grapefruit on a plate. Drizzle with desired amount of simple syrup.
