large grapefruit, segmented or peeled and thinly sliced
Method
In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, water and star anise. Set over medium heat and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and cook, stirring until sugar has dissolved, about 2-3 minutes. Turn off the heat.
Let cool to room temperature. Strain out the star anise. Can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator, in an airtight container, for up to 2 weeks.
Arrange the grapefruit on a plate. Drizzle with desired amount of simple syrup.
