Fried Pickles

homemade fried pickles on a serving plate with bowls of ranch dressing and fry sauce for dipping
  • Serves:  6
  • Prep Time:  5 min
  • Cook Time:  15 min

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon dried parsley
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1 (16-ounces) jar sliced dill pickles, drained and dried
  • Flaky salt, for serving (optional)
  • Freshly cracked pepper, for serving (optional)
  • Homemade Ranch Dressing, for serving (optional)
  • Fry Sauce, for serving (optional)

Method

  1. In a shallow bowl combine the flour, cajun seasoning, parsley, oregano, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder. To a separate shallow bowl, add the buttermilk.

  2. Attach a deep-fry thermometer to the side of a large, heavy pot. Pour 2 inches of oil into the pot over medium heat. Once the oil reaches 375°F, working one pickle at a time, coat in the dry mixture, then dip in the buttermilk. Allow any excess to drip off and coat in the dry mixture. Working in small batches, carefully add pickles to the hot oil and cook until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer to a paper-towel-lined plate.

  3. Season with flaky salt and pepper, if using, and serve with ranch or fry sauce, if desired.
