Dressed Up Baked Beans
- Serves: 15
- Prep Time: 20 min
- Cook Time: 20 min
Ingredients
- 10 -12 ounces thick-cut bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 cooked beef sausage link (12-ounce), sliced into ½-inch-thick pieces (optional)
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 3 (28-ounce) cans original baked beans
- ¼ cup pure maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons spicy brown mustard
- 2 tablespoons molasses
- ¼ cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon unfiltered apple cider vinegar
Method
Place the bacon in a large Dutch oven or stockpot. Set the Dutch oven over medium heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until the bacon crisps and the fat is rendered, 5 to 7 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the bacon to a paper towel–lined plate, reserving 2 tablespoons of the fat in the pan.
Add the sausage and cook until browned on both sides, 3-4 minutes. Add the onion and cook, stirring until softened, 5-6 minutes.
Stir in the beans, syrup, mustard, molasses, ketchup, and vinegar. Stir in the bacon. Cook until warmed through and serve.
Note: Transfer to a crock-pot to keep them warm for a buffet-style party.
