Preheat the oven to 350°F. Wash potatoes with a stiff brush, removing any excess dirt and pat dry. Using a fork poke the potatoes 8-12 times going 1-inch deep all over the potato. Brush potatoes lightly with oil.
Bake the potato directly on the rack in the middle of the oven, setting a baking sheet on the lower rack to catch any liquid that drips out of the potatoes.
Bake for 1 hour or until potatoes are tender all the way through. Remove them from the oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes.
Serve by cutting a line end to end and then squeezing one end towards the other. Top with butter and salt.
Note: The more potatoes you use the more cook time you’ll need. If using more than 4 potatoes, you may need to increase the cook time by 10 minutes.
