Baked Brie

Baked brie wrapped in golden puff pastry, filled with pecans and brown sugar, served warm for an elegant holiday appetizer.
  • Serves:  8
  • Prep Time:  10 min
  • Cook Time:  35 min

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 (16-ounce) wheel of brie cheese
  • ¼ cup roughly chopped pecans
  • 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1 large egg
  • Crackers, for serving (optional)
  • Apple slices, for serving (optional)

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F with a rack in the center position. Grease a pie plate or rimmed sheet pan.
  2. Roll out puff pastry. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry into an 12- inch square.
  3. Place the puff pastry in the prepared pie plate. Add the brie to the center of the puff pastry, then top the brie with pecans, brown sugar, and black pepper. Carefully fold the corners of the pastry over the brie, pinching the edges together to seal.
  4. In a small bowl, beat the egg with 2 tablespoons water. Brush the pastry all over, being sure to get the sides.
  5. Bake until the pastry is a deep golden brown, 35 to 40 minutes. Serve warm with crackers or apples, if desired.

Notes

This recipe works with any size wheel of brie up to 21 ounces. Frozen puff pastry takes 30 to 40 minutes to thaw.
